Rudraksha beads are the dried stones of the fruit of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree. The stones are associated with the Hindu deity Shiva and are commonly worn for protection and for chanting mantras. Wherever I travel I search out the local bead shops and these beads were purchased at a bead store in Amsterdam. The stricking deep red color, which is likely enhanced from the natural red color of the seed, really spoke to me. The beaded rope is a style that I have used before to compliment the texture of a pendant. The colors go together so well!
 
The necklace measures 17 1/2  inches and is closed with one of my pure silver toggle clasps.
