The focal beads for this elegant necklace are Raku beads made by artist Amy Mealy with Xaz Beads. I purchased them at the Tucson gem show in February and incorporated them into a beaded necklace designed to pull out the wonderful grey and blue tones of the Raku finish.
 
The Raku pottery tradition originated in Japan in the 16th century. Over the years, the Raku pottery process has evolved into making many items with it beyond the original pottery, including jewelry components.
 
The necklace measures 17" in length, so will layer easily with other jewelry. It even layers will with my beaded scarf necklace - see photo.
